Effects of LSD-25 on Food Intake in the Rat.

Experimental Biology and Medicine November 1, 1961 Charles Hamilton, Chester R. Wilpizeski 13 citations

Suppression of food intake in the rat was shown to follow injection of LSD-25 and this effect was determined to be dose dependent. When the effects of 10 daily injections of the drug were investigated, a suppression of food intake on each day indicated a lack of development of complete tolerance. These data show that caution is needed in interpretation of the behavioral effects of LSD-25 where...

POTENTIATION OF SUBSTANCE P BY LYSERGIC ACID DIETHYLAMIDE IN VIVO

British Journal of Pharmacology and Chemotherapy 1961 W. A. Krivoy 10 citations

In doses of 10 mug/kg or more, lysergic acid diethylamide enhanced the fourth potential (DR IV) of the dorsal root potential complex in the cat. Smaller doses of lysergic acid diethylamide did not in themselves alter the DR IV, but revealed an enhancement of the potential by substance P, which by itself had no effect. 2-Bromolysergic acid diethylamide had no action on the dorsal root...

The Use of LSD in Psychotherapy: Transactions of a Conference on Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD-25), April 22, 23, and 24, 1059, Princeton, N. J

JAMA December 10, 1960 L. Lunsky 4 citations

Contributors to this volume include psychiatrists, psychologists, ethnologists, and sociologists. The purpose of the volume, as outlined in the introduction, is to promote effective communication by the give-and-take of lively discussions. Unfortunately, meaningful communication is infrequently achieved in this volume. The discussions are tangential and lack coherence. The experiments which are...

Suppression of LSD-25 Effects in Rats by Steroids.

Experimental Biology and Medicine November 1, 1960 John R. Bergen, Donald M. Krus, Gregory Pincus 13 citations

A series of 15 steroid hormones and metabolites were tested for their effectiveness to suppress LSD-25 induced behavior changes in rats. All produced significant suppression (p<0.05) except estradiol. Ability to suppress LSD-25 action does not appear to be related to specific molecular groups or to hormonal potency.

LSD and JB318: A Comparison of Two Hallucinogens

A M A Archives of General Psychiatry April 1, 1960 Binyamin Z. Lebovits 13 citations

Introduction Lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD-25) has been the most commonly employed hallucinogenic agent in psychopharmacologic studies. LSD-induced changes in mood, thought, perception, and behavior and in psychological test performance have been widely studied.1-8More recently JB 318 (N-ethyl-3-piperidyl benzilate), a psychotomimetic drug with atropine-like autonomic effects, has been...

Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD-25) as a Facilitating Agent in Psychotherapy

Archives of General Psychiatry March 1, 1960 Arthur L. Chandler 77 citations

Our use of drug-facilitated psychotherapy has been to aid repressed material to become conscious and to increase insight. Any method or tool which facilitates these processes has the possibility of being a valuable psychotherapeutic tool. Certain drugs on which we have done research, such as mescaline, ALD-52, ibogaine, psilocybin, Ditran (N-ethyl-3-piperidyl cyclopentylphenyl glycolate HC1),...

ASSAY OF LYSERGIC ACID DIETHYLAMIDE AND ITS PASSAGE FROM BLOOD INTO THE PERFUSED CEREBRAL VENTRICLES

British Journal of Pharmacology and Chemotherapy 1960 M. Draskoci 1 citation

On the isolated rat uterus, lysergic acid diethylamide had an oxytocic action in a concentration of 2x10(-8); in smaller concentrations (10(-9) to 10(-10)), which had no stimulating effect of their own, it potentiated acetylcholine-induced contractions. This potentiating effect was made the basis for assaying minute amounts of lysergic acid diethylamide. The method was used to assay this...

Effects of LSD-25 and Amphetamine on a Running Response in the Rat

Archives of General Psychiatry 1960 Charles Hamilton 31 citations

After injection ofd-lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD-25) in the rat, the animal shows symptoms of autonomic effects, such as profuse salivation, urination, and defecation. There is some indication that the somatic nervous system is also involved, since the animal exhibits hyperactivity in the first few minutes after injection, while after three to five minutes there is a tendency for all four...
