Microcrystalloptic tests for lysergic acid diethylamide and other hallucinogens

Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology November 1, 1970 K. Genest, Lorna J. Lowry

Abstract Microcrystallopic tests for LSD, NN-diethyltryptamine, NN-dimethyltryptamine, bufotenine, psilocin, psilocybin and STP are described. The tests are recommended in conjunction with other analytical techniques if applied for the forensic identification of hallucingens.

Antagonism of 5‐hydroxytryptamine by LSD 25 in the central nervous system: a possible neuronal basis for the actions of LSD 25

British Journal of Pharmacology October 1, 1970 R.j. Boakes, Philip Bradley, Ian Briggs et al. 164 citations

Summary 5‐Hydroxytryptamine (5‐HT), acetylcholine (ACh), noradrenaline (NA), glutamate, d , l ‐homocysteic acid (DLH), glycine and γ‐aminobutyric acid (GABA) were applied to single neurones in the brain stem of decerebrate cats by microiontophoresis. The abilities of d ‐lysergic acid diethylamide tartrate (LSD 25), methysergide maleate (UML 491) and 2‐bromo‐lysergic acid diethylamide (BOL 148)...

LSD: No Teratogenic Action in Rats, Mice, and Hamsters

Science August 7, 1970 J. Serratrice, R Dupuis, Marie Christine Aubry 23 citations

Lysergic acid diethylamide tartrate was given to 98 pregnant rats, 67 mice, and 22 hamsters as a single dose of 5 to 500 micrograms per kilogram of body weight per day either at the beginning of gestation or during the period of organogenesis. Examination of the 1003 rat fetuses, 521 mouse fetuses, and 189 hamster fetuses obtained failed to prove any abortifacient, teratogenic, or...

Proverbs in an LSD Cult

Journal of American Folklore July 1, 1970 Richard Bauman, Neil Mccabe 10 citations

FOR THE FOLKLORIST interested in the folk's own conceptualization of the nature and function of their folklore, either conscious or unconscious, folk parodies of folklore forms constitute a highly productive area of investigation. Examination of the ways in which the original forms are altered in the construction of parodies and of how and when the parodies are employed yields insight, by...

The experimental use of psychedelic (LSD) psychotherapy

JAMA June 15, 1970 W. N. Pahnke 41 citations

The history of research with psychedelic drugs has produced a variety of methods for their use and conflicting claims about results. First came the wave of excitement among experimentalists in the 1950s when it was claimed that lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) could produce a model psychosis which might be useful in understanding schizophrenia. While this promise was fading, enthusiastic...
