Effects of mindfulness-based stress reduction combined with narrative nursing on treatment adherence and negative emotions with schizophrenia

A retrospective study of 120 schizophrenia patients found that combining mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) with narrative nursing improved treatment adherence, reduced anxiety and depression, and enhanced quality of life more than usual care alone. After 8 weeks, the combined-intervention group scored higher on medication adherence and lower on anxiety, depression, and psychiatric symptom scales, with all differences statistically significant. The authors conclude that integrating MBSR and narrative nursing has strong clinical value for schizophrenia patients.

Effectiveness of mindfulness-based cognitive therapy against suicidal ideation in patients with depression: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

A systematic review and meta-analysis of seven randomized controlled trials (479 participants) found that mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) reduced suicidal ideation and depressive symptoms more than treatment as usual in patients with current depression. The effect on suicidal ideation was modest (standard mean difference -0.33) and on depression was larger (-0.96). The authors conclude MBCT is an effective intervention for reducing both outcomes in depressed patients.

Ketamine Analog Methoxetamine Induced Inflammation and Dysfunction of Bladder in Rats

Long-term methoxetamine, a ketamine analog used recreationally, causes bladder dysfunction and inflammation in rats. Female rats injected daily with 30 mg/kg methoxetamine or ketamine for 4 or 12 weeks showed increased urination frequency, damaged bladder lining, inflammatory cell infiltration, and fibrosis. Treated rats had elevated levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and markers of fibrosis. Methoxetamine also directly damaged human urothelial cells and increased inflammatory signals. The findings suggest methoxetamine's bladder effects resemble ketamine-induced cystitis.
