The longitudinal influence of cyberbullying victimization on depression, self-esteem and academic burnout among Chinese adolescents: mindfulness as a mediator

Frontiers in Psychiatry May 8, 2025 Yanping Lu, Longxin Dang, Yuan Tao

Cyberbullying victimization (CV) has been linked to numerous adverse psychological outcomes among adolescents. While previous research has established associations between CV and negative outcomes including depression, diminished self-esteem, and academic burnout, the potential protective mechanisms in these relationships remain underexplored. This longitudinal study investigated the mediating...

The Role of a 10-Week Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Intervention in Managing Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Among the Elderly: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Journal of Neonatal Surgery May 8, 2025 Rachna Garg, Shubhagata Awasthi, Naveen Gupta

This study investigates the effectiveness of a 10-week Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (MBCBT) intervention in reducing symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress among elderly individuals. Psychological distress is increasingly prevalent in older adults, yet non-pharmacological interventions remain underutilized in geriatric care. Employing a quasi-experimental pre-post design,...

(R)-ketamine induces mGlu5 receptor-dependent antidepressant-like effects in the chronic unpredictable mild stress model of depression in mice.

Psychopharmacology May 8, 2025 Agnieszka Pałucha-Poniewiera, Anna Rafało-Ulińska, Agata Faron-Górecka et al. 1 citation

(S)-Ketamine, which is used to treat depression, has significant undesirable effects and has potential for abuse. A safe alternative to (S)-ketamine is (R)-ketamine. The relationship between (R)-ketamine and the mGlu5 receptor is unknown, although screening tests indicate the possibility of potentiation of the antidepressant effect of (R)-ketamine by the mGlu5 receptor negative allosteric...

Bidirectional relationships between mindfulness and symptoms of depression and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum.

Journal of reproductive and infant psychology May 7, 2025 Izaskun Orue, Oiana Echabe-Ecenarro 1 citation

Perinatal anxiety and depression are significant public health concerns with the potential to affect maternal and infant well-being; therefore, it is crucial to identify protective factors. This study explores the reciprocal relationship between dispositional mindfulness and symptoms of anxiety and depression throughout pregnancy and the postpartum period. In a sample of 347 women, mindfulness...

Reduced Brain Responsiveness to Emotional Stimuli With Escitalopram But Not Psilocybin Therapy for Depression

American Journal of Psychiatry May 7, 2025 Matthew B. Wall, Lysia Demetriou, Bruna Giribaldi et al. 16 citations

Despite large improvements in depressive symptoms in the psilocybin group, psilocybin therapy had only a minor effect on brain responsiveness to emotional stimuli. These results are consistent with prior findings that the antidepressant action of SSRIs is often accompanied by a reduction in emotional responsiveness, but this effect may not occur in psychedelic therapy.

Psilocybin Mitigates Behavioral Despair and Cognitive Impairment in Treatment-resistant Depression Model using Wistar Kyoto Rats

Research Square May 6, 2025 Zitong Wang, Brett Robbins, Ryan Zhuang et al. preprint

Abstract Major depressive disorder (MDD) is a leading cause of disability that affects over 300 million people globally. Despite multiple antidepressant trials, approximately one-third of MDD patients remain symptomatic, progressing to treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This persistence possibly is due to the multifaceted etiology of TRD, encompassing biological, psychological, and...

A comparative study of the impact of meditation and Buddhist five precepts on stress and depression between older adults and younger adults.

Scientific Reports May 6, 2025 Nahathai Wongpakaran, Sirilux Klaychaiya, Chompimaksorn Panuspanudechdamrong et al. 2 citations

Older adults frequently face a myriad of physical and mental health challenges, which can contribute to feelings of stress and subsequent depression. Nevertheless, with age often comes a wealth of life experience and resilience. Perceived stress commonly predicts depression across all age groups, while meditation has been associated with lower levels of depression. Additionally, adherence to...

Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy for Treatment-Resistant Depression: a Systematic Review

Current Treatment Options in Psychiatry May 5, 2025 Ana Malta Gomes, Filipa Novais 3 citations

Abstract Purpose of the review Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) is a challenging condition characterized by minimal improvement despite two or more antidepressant trials. Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) integrates the rapid antidepressant effects of ketamine with psychotherapy to enhance and sustain therapeutic outcomes. This systematic review evaluates the effectiveness of KAP in...

Anxiety, Depression, Fatigue, and Quality of Life Outcomes Following a Movement-Based Mindfulness or Social Group Program for Chronic Stroke: A Sub-Study of a Phase II Feasibility Randomised Controlled Trial

Mindfulness May 3, 2025 Shaun Hancock, Tharshanah Thayabaranathan, Rene Stolwyk et al.

Movement-based mindfulness may be beneficial for mental health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) post-stroke. We assessed changes in anxiety, depression, fatigue, and HRQoL in survivors of stroke participating in movement-based mindfulness intervention against an attention control (social group). Participants were between 3- and 18-months post-stroke and randomised 1:1 to the...

Treatment-resistant depression and intranasal esketamine: Spanish clinical consensus on practical aspects

The European Journal of Psychiatry May 2, 2025 Josep Antoni Ramos‐quiroga, Fernando Mora, Silvia Arostegui et al. 4 citations

Pharmacological management of major depressive disorder has traditionally relied on antidepressants targeting the monoaminergic pathway. Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) patients have been frequently excluded from registrational trials, resulting in a lack of clear clinical recommendations for an optimised management. In recent years, treatments based on other mechanisms of action have been...
