Self-esteem is a form of self-acceptance reflected in confidence in one's abilities, worth, success, and value. Low self-esteem is linked to depression, hopelessness, and vulnerability to deviant behavior. Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) effectively improves self-esteem and reduces depression, mood dysregulation, negative emotions, and other adverse effects of low self-esteem. MBCT provides adolescents with skills to focus on the present, practice acceptance, reframe cognitions, and improve management of stress and difficult emotions such as anger and anxiety.
