The Neuroplasticity of Yoga: AI and Neural Imaging Perspectives on Cognitive Enhancement - Yoga-Induced Brain State Modulation

Applied Medical Research February 28, 2022 Nagarjuna Reddy Aturi

Meditation and yoga led to an overall increase in healthy brain activity. The review features a drawn out impact of contemplation practice on multivariate examples of useful cerebrum availability and recommends that reflection mastery is related with explicit neuroplastic changes in availability designs inside and between numerous mind organizations. The FA reflection availability design...

Impact of Two Neuronal Sigma-1 Receptor Modulators, PRE084 and DMT, on Neurogenesis and Neuroinflammation in an Aβ1–42-Injected, Wild-Type Mouse Model of AD

International Journal of Molecular Sciences February 24, 2022 Emőke Borbély, Viktória É Varga, Titanilla Szögi et al. 31 citations

Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia characterized by cognitive dysfunctions. Pharmacological interventions to slow the progression of AD are intensively studied. A potential direction targets neuronal sigma-1 receptors (S1Rs). S1R ligands are recognized as promising therapeutic agents that may alleviate symptom severity of AD, possibly via preventing amyloid-β-(Aβ-)...

Biochemical Mechanisms Underlying Psychedelic-Induced Neuroplasticity.

Biochemistry January 21, 2022 David E. Olson 121 citations

In addition to producing profound subjective effects following acute administration, psychedelic compounds can induce beneficial behavioral changes relevant to the treatment of neuropsychiatric disorders that last long after the compounds have been cleared from the body. One hypothesis with the potential to explain the remarkable enduring effects of psychedelics is related to their abilities to...

Persistent sexually dimorphic effects of adolescent THC exposure on hippocampal synaptic plasticity and episodic memory in rodents.

Neurobiology of Disease January 2022 Aliza A Le, Julian Quintanilla, Mohammad Amani et al.

There is evidence that cannabis use during adolescence leads to memory and cognitive problems in young adulthood but little is known about effects of early life cannabis exposure on synaptic operations that are critical for encoding and organizing information. We report here that a 14-day course of daily Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol treatments administered to adolescent rats and mice (aTHC) leads to...

Glutamatergic receptor and neuroplasticity in depression: Implications for ketamine and rapastinel as the rapid-acting antidepressants.

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications 2022 Ya-Ting Wang, Ning-Ning Zhang, Ling Liu et al. 47 citations

PURPOSE OF REVIEW To explore the convergent downstream pathways of ketamine and rapastinel and drive further development of identification for following generational rapid-acting antidepressants in the synaptic process. RECENT FINDINGS Ketamine is an NMDAR antagonist and is proven effective in depression for the rapid and sustained antidepressant response, while rapastinel is an NMDAR positive...

Low-dose S-ketamine exerts antidepressant-like effects via enhanced hippocampal synaptic plasticity in postpartum depression rats.

Neurobiology of Stress 2022 Zhuoyu Ren, Mingling Wang, Mokhtar Aldhabi et al. 28 citations

Rapid antidepressant effects of S-ketamine have repeatedly been confirmed in patients with depression, as well as in chronic unpredictable mild stress (CUMS) animal models. However, the pharmacological study of S-ketamine for anti-postpartum depression has not been considered. In this study, the classical method of reproductive hormone withdrawal was used to construct a rat model of postpartum...

Implications on hypnotherapy: Neuroplasticity, epigenetics and pain.

Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews December 2021 Noémi Császár, Felix Scholkmann, István Bókkon

We provide a brief review about the significance of hypnosis with respect to applications and physiological processes in hypnotherapy. Our review concludes that hypnosis is a promising method to manage acute and chronic pain. In addition, we discuss indications pointing toward the view that hypnosis can induce changes in neuroplasticity possibly involving epigenetic mechanisms.

Serotonergic Psychedelics in Neural Plasticity

Frontiers in Molecular Neuroscience October 12, 2021 Kacper Łukasiewicz, Jacob J. Baker, Yi Zuo et al. 32 citations

Psychedelics, compounds that can induce dramatic changes in conscious experience, have been used by humans for centuries. Recent studies have shown that certain psychedelics can induce neural plasticity by promoting neurite growth and synapse formation. In this review, we focus on the role of classical serotonergic psychedelics in neural plasticity and discuss its implication for their...

Ketamine triggers rapid antidepressant effects by modulating synaptic plasticity in a new depressive-like mouse model based on astrocyte glutamate transporter GLT-1 knockdown in infralimbic cortex.

Revista de Psiquiatría y Salud Mental October 1, 2021 M. N. Fullana, Verónica Paz, Francesc Artigas et al.

OBJECTIVE Recently, we reported on a new MDD-like mouse model based on a regionally selective knockdown of astroglial glutamate transporters, GLAST/GLT-1, in infralimbic cortex (IL) which evokes widespread changes in mouse brain associated with the typical alterations found in MDD patients. To further characterize this new MDD-like mouse model, here we examine some transcriptional elements of...

Prolonged epigenomic and synaptic plasticity alterations following single exposure to a psychedelic in mice

Cell Reports October 1, 2021 Mario de la Fuente Revenga, Bohan Zhu, Christopher A. Guevara et al.

SUMMARY Clinical evidence suggests that rapid and sustained antidepressant action can be attained with a single exposure to psychedelics. However, the biological substrates and key mediators of psychedelics’ enduring action remain unknown. Here, we show that a single administration of the psychedelic DOI produces fast-acting effects on frontal cortex dendritic spine structure and acceleration...
