Microdosing psychedelics has no impact on cognitive function in naturalistic settings

Journal of Psychology & Clinical Psychiatry August 1, 2023 Jannis Dinkelacker, Ioana Pop 3 citations

Background and aim: Subjective and anecdotal accounts link ingestion of psychedelic microdoses, quantities small enough to retain perceptual clarity, to enhanced cognitive function and performance. In this study we review current evidence, test the link between domains of cognitive function and microdosing psychedelics and evaluate a remote testing approach for cognitive function. Methods: In...

The difference between 'placebo group' and 'placebo control': a case study in psychedelic microdosing.

Scientific Reports July 26, 2023 Balázs Szigeti, David Nutt, Robin Carhart-Harris et al. 33 citations

In medical trials, 'blinding' ensures the equal distribution of expectancy effects between treatment arms in theory; however, blinding often fails in practice. We use computational modelling to show how weak blinding, combined with positive treatment expectancy, can lead to an uneven distribution of expectancy effects. We call this 'activated expectancy bias' (AEB) and show that AEB can inflate...

In healthy adults, microdosing of LSD produced transient effects on mood

The Brown University Psychopharmacology Update July 1, 2023

A randomized trial involving healthy adult men has found that microdosing of lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) over a 6‐week period resulted in improved effects on mood during dose days. No longer‐term improvements in mood or cognition were reported. Study results were published online March 28, 2023, in Biological Psychiatry.

Microdosing: A Conceptual Framework for use as Programming Strategy for Resistance Training in Team Sports

Strength & Conditioning Journal June 15, 2023 M. Cuthbert, G. G. Haff, J. McMahon et al.

Supplemental Digital Content is Available in the Text. ABSTRACT Microdosing, in the context of resistance training, has increased in popularity within sporting environments where it is frequently used among strength and conditioning professionals. Although there is a clear definition for the concept within the literature, it is still commonly incorrectly used, and the extent to which...

Is Microdosing a Placebo?

June 4, 2023 Vince Polito, Paul Liknaitzky 2 citations preprint

Some recent research and commentary have suggested that most or all the effects reported by people who microdose psychedelics may be explained by expectations or placebo effects. Here we step through all the available evidence from dose-controlled studies that have investigated the effects of low doses of LSD and psilocybin. We suggest eight reasons why current claims that microdosing is...

17 Microdosing/microtracer based pediatric drug development

Archives of Disease in Childhood June 1, 2023 Esther van Duijn, Steven Erpelinck, Wouter Vaes

Introduction: An overview is given on the use of microdosing/microtracing studies for the safer and faster development of drugs in children. In a microdosing study a very small amount of radiolabelled (often 14C) drug is administered to a human volunteer. Using accelerator mass spectrometry extremely low amounts of the drug and metabolites can be traced and quantified. Methods: Several...

Evaluation of the Effect of Stone Lines and Microdosing Adoption on Sorghum Yield and Income: A Case of Smallholder Farmers in Burkina Faso

Journal of Agricultural Sciences May 15, 2023 Didier Sawadogo, Ichizen Matsumura, K. Yasunobu et al.

This present study aims to investigate the factors influencing the combined adoption of stone lines and microdosing and its effect on sorghum yields and net income. By adjusting for biases in observable and unobservable factors, the multinomial endogenous switching regression (MESR) model was employed to estimate the net effects of adoption on outcomes. The average treatment effect on treated...

Experiences of microdosing psychedelics in an attempt to support wellbeing and mental health.

BMC Psychiatry March 14, 2023 Rebecca S Ryan, Alex Copello, Andrew P Fox 12 citations

Microdosing psychedelic drugs is a growing phenomenon, but little is known about the experiences surrounding this. Research broadly suggests that people may use psychedelics in an attempt to self-medicate for mental health and wellbeing. However, the precise details, rationale and meaning of such attempts remains unclear, and would benefit from clarification, using tailored experiential...

Transitioning From High-dose Methadone to Buprenorphine Using a Microdosing Approach: Unique Considerations at ASAM Level 3 Facilities

Journal of Addiction Medicine March 1, 2023

Transitions from high-dose methadone to buprenorphine for treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) present risk of precipitated withdrawal related to the introduction of a high-affinity partial agonist at the mu-opioid receptor after occupancy by a lower-affinity full agonist. Various strategies have been explored to maintain patient stability during this process, including microdosing...

Feasibility of implantable microdosing devices to perform in vivo pharmacotyping in pancreatic cancer.

Journal of Clinical Oncology February 1, 2023 Lyudmyla Demyan, Oliver Standring, Taemoon Chung et al.

742 Background: Current biomarkers offer modest predictive capacity for drug sensitivity testing in pancreatic cancer. Patient-specific pharmacotyping offers the potential for a more direct, personalized prediction model. Recently, an implantable microdevice was developed to facilitate in situ multi-agent pharmacotyping and has since entered clinical trials in multiple cancer types, but had not...
