Mescaline and Related Compounds

Birkhäuser Basel eBooks 1968 A. R. Patel 9 citations

This review covers essentially derivatives of phenethylamine and phenylisopropylamine which contain three phenolic hydroxyl groups and their alkyl ethers. They comprise mescaline, its amphetamine analog and their position isomers. The chemistry, biochemistry and pharmacology of these compounds are the subject of sections of this review.

Congenital Malformations Induced by Mescaline, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, and Bromolysergic Acid in the Hamster

Science October 13, 1967 William F. Geber 87 citations

Malformations of the brain, spinal cord, liver, and other viscera; body edema; and localized hemorrhages were found in fetal hamsters from mothers injected subcutaneously with a single dose of mescaline, lysergic acid diethylamide, or 2-bromo-D lysergic acid diethylamide on the 8th day of pregnancy. In addition, all three drugs produced an increase in the percentages of small fetuses per...

THE EFFECT OF AN ECTOSYLVIAN EPILEPTOGENIC FOCUS INDUCED BY TOPICAL APPLICATION OF MESCALINE ON NITROGENOUS COMPOUNDS IN THE NEOCORTEX OF CAT

Journal of Neurochemistry November 1, 1966 G Badiu, N Mison-Crighel 4 citations

SUMMARY An cctosylvian spiking focus, induced by topical application of mescaline, brought about changes in nitrogenous compounds not only in the focus but throughout the cerebral cortex. Prior to the onset of the spiking focus, 2 min after mescaline application, ammonia levels increased significantly in all neocortical areas, especially at the focus and homolateral marginal gyrus; free amide...

Mescaline, 3,4-Dimethoxyphenylethylamine, and Adrenaline: Sites of Electroencephalographic Arousal

Science December 3, 1965 Yuji Takeo, Harold E. Himwich 25 citations

Transections of the brain of rabbit reveal that electroencephalographic arousal produced by injections of adrenaline takes place at the midbrain level, while mescaline and 3,4-dimethoxyphenylethylamine induce such arousal lower in the brainstem, at the medullary level.

METABOLIC FATE OF ν-(3, 4, 5-TRIMETHOXYPHENYL)-ETHYLAMINE (MESCALINE) IN HUMANS: ISOLATION AND IDENTIFICATION OF 3,4, 5-TRIMETHOXYPHENYLACETIC ACID

Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics August 1, 1964 Kyriakos Charalampous, A. Orengo, K. Walker et al.

Human subjects given labeled β-(3,4 ,5-trimethoxyphyphenyl) -ethylanoine by mouth excrete an average of 81.9% of the administered dose in the urine during the first 12 hours. An average of 26.2% of the administered dose is excreted in the urine as free TMPA. TMPA given to humans by mouth produces no physiological or psychological changes.
