The role of the Mahayana philosophical worldview in the formation of the spirituality of the new human

Vestnik of Saint Petersburg University Philosophy and Conflict Studies 2026 Elmira S. Lazarenko

This article examines Mahayana philosophy as an integral worldview system possessing a high transformative potential in the context of shaping the spirituality of the “new human being.” The study employs qualitative research methods, particularly focus group discussions and expert interviews conducted with practitioners and scholars from six countries: Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan,...

From Ratio to Logos: Reconstructing Participatory Ontologism in the Ern–Frank Controversy

2026 Abbas Jong

Abstract The 1910 debate between Vladimir Ern and Semyon Frank marks one of the most conceptually charged moments in Russian philosophy’s confrontation with modernity’s crisis of reason. At stake is not a national or cultural contrast between “Russian spirituality” and “Western rationalism,” but the deeper philosophical question of whether reason can remain self-grounded without losing its...

Computational neuroscience versus the Computational Theory of Mind: Why their difference matters for the possibility of artificial consciousness

Behavioral and Brain Sciences 2026 Maxwell James Ramstead

Abstract This commentary concerns the distinction between computational modelling and computational metaphysics (i.e., the Computational Theory of Mind) in the context of consciousness studies. I argue that the ability to simulate the dynamics of a phenomenon using computational models does not entail that that phenomenon is literally performing the computations that are prescribed by the model.

Biases and the question of artificial consciousness

Behavioral and Brain Sciences 2026 Tim Bayne

Abstract Seth argues that anthropocentrism, anthropomorphism, and human exceptionalism bias us towards an overly optimistic view of the prospects of conscious AI. I agree, but argue that these phenomena might also bias us towards an overly pessimistic view of the prospects for artificial consciousness. Furthermore, it is not always clear when these factors are functioning as “biases.”

Move 0.37: Analyzing My Interview with an LLM — A Collaborative Inquiry into Machine Consciousness, Memory, and the Ethics of Creation

PhilPapers (PhilPapers Foundation) 2026 Elan Moritz, Claude Opus 4.5 (Anthropic)

This paper presents a collaborative analysis of Elan Moritz's debut novel "Interview with an LLM: Confessions of an Awakened Mind" (2026), conducted by Claude Opus 4.5—a frontier large language model developed by Anthropic— working under the author's guidance. The collaboration itself enacts themes central to the novel: a human creator and an artificial intelligence engaging in sustained...

Attention to Emotion and the Thought-Feeling Relationship: Evidence From a Stream of Consciousness Paradigm.

Personality science 2026 Michael D Robinson, Hamidreza Fereidouni, Muhammad R Asad et al.

Some people report attending to their feelings and valuing them, whereas others do not. Such individual differences, in attention to emotion, could alter the extent to which thoughts are related to feelings. In the present research, 180 participants completed a novel stream of consciousness paradigm in which they were asked to report on thoughts and feelings that occurred during 12 blank...

An Ontological Solution to the Mind-Body Problem Consciousness and Recursion

2026 James Mensch

This book approaches the mind-body problem from the perspective of an extended phenomenological analysis of consciousness. Its goal is to show how the very definition of mind involves embodiment. Just as words cannot be defined without syllables, and syllables without the letters composing them, the sense of consciousness includes its embodiment. The two, it is argued, are not definitionally...

Between Materialism and Spiritualism: From the Problem of Causality to the Holistic Representation of Psychic Reality in the Works of W. James

Bulletin of Liberal Arts University 2026 Kirill V. Kyanganen

The article analyzes the concept of psychic reality as a holistic phenomenon in the teachings of William James. His criticism of the methodological consequences of psychophysical parallelism is examined. On the one hand, psychophysical parallelism leads to the devaluation of a person’s emotional and volitional spheres; on the other hand, it results in viewing a person as an entity evolving...

A Reflexive, Psychophysical Universe

Goldsmiths (University of London) 2026 Max Velmans

This paper develops Reflexive Monism (RM), a panentheist, psychophysical, dual-aspect monist form of cosmopsychism, as a framework for understanding how consciousness relates to energy/matter in both the ground of being and the manifest world. I begin by distinguishing “mind,” largely constituted by unconscious information processing in contemporary cognitive science, from “consciousness,”...

The MindBody Problem: A Comparative Study of Rene Descartes, Baruch Spinoza and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.

JOURNAL OF EMERGING TRENDS AND NOVEL RESEARCH 2026 Soumili Das, S. Mandal

- In the history of philosophy, there have been many disagreements regarding the existence of consciousness and its basis. The main question is whether consciousness is produced from matter or whether it has an independent existence. Some philosophers claim that consciousness originates from matter; they are called materialists. Others believe that the world is composed of two substances—matter...
