Whose Prosocial Intentions Are More Affected by Mindfulness, Young Adolescents or Young Adults?

PsyCh Journal July 6, 2025 Qianguo Xiao, Chenyu Li, Chen Chen et al.

Two studies were conducted to investigate: (1) the effects of dispositional mindfulness and short-term mindfulness induction on prosocial willingness, (2) the mediating roles of moral identity and moral disengagement, and (3) age-related differences between young adolescents (12-15 years) and young adults (18-24 years). In Study 1, a cross-sectional survey was conducted among 271 college...

The Effects of Mindfulness on Shame: Exploring Mediation by Cognitive Flexibility and Self-Compassion in a Chinese Adult Population.

PsyCh Journal December 10, 2024 Xiaoshuo Zhang, Jinghong Wang, Yuzheng Wang et al.

To examine the effects of mindfulness on shame and the mechanisms mediated by cognitive flexibility and self-compassion in a Chinese adult population in daily life, we conducted two studies. Study 1 was a cross-sectional study using the Five-Factor Mindfulness Questionnaire, the Cognitive Flexibility Inventory, the Self-Compassion Scale, and the Self-Conscious Affect-3, which were administered...

Conscious vision in blindness: A new perceptual phenomenon implemented on the "wrong" side of the brain.

PsyCh Journal December 1, 2024 Yan Bao, Bin Zhou, Xinchi Yu et al. 2 citations

Patients with lesions in the visual cortex are blind in corresponding regions of the visual field, but they still may process visual information, a phenomenon referred to as residual vision or "blindsight". Here we report behavioral and fMRI observations with a patient who reports conscious vision across an extended area of blindness for moving, but not for stationary stimuli. This completion...

Effects of 7-minute practices of breathing and meditation on stress reduction.

PsyCh Journal February 1, 2024 Chunxia Sun, Jiajin Tong, Xin Qi et al. 2 citations

We compared the effects of 7-min practices of breathing and meditation on perceived stress reduction and related affective outcomes (active emotion, serenity, anxiety, and fatigue) during micro-breaks. Undergraduates from two classes (N = 59) completed the 7-point online surveys. Results supported the effects of both practices.

Red visual stimulation in the Ganzfeld leads to a relative overestimation of duration compared to green.

PsyCh Journal February 2021 Sebastian L. Kübel, Henrike Fiedler, Marc Wittmann

A Ganzfeld is a homogenized visual and auditory perceptual field which can induce altered states of consciousness (ASC; Metzger, 1929; Schmidt & Prein, 2019). Using a balanced intrasubject design, we compared participants' experience during two differently colored (red, green) 25-min Ganzfeld sessions with brown noise as acoustic stimulation. Participants were exposed to the colored visual...

Awareness of the passage of time and self-consciousness: What do meditators report?

PsyCh Journal March 1, 2019 Sylvie Droit-Volet, Michael Dambrun 72 citations

What do humans mean when they say that time passes quickly or slowly? In this article, we try to respond to this question on the basis of our studies on the judgment of the passage of time and its links with the judgment of physical durations. The awareness of the passage of time when consciousness is altered by meditation is also discussed. A dissociation is then made among the "self-time...

A reflection upon methods to explore timing in patients with schizophrenia.

PsyCh Journal March 1, 2019 Brice Martin, Nicolas Franck, Anne Giersch 14 citations

Phenomenologists have provided a detailed description of the disorders of the subjective experience associated with minimal-self disorders in patients with schizophrenia. Those patients report a range of distortions of their conscious experiences, including a sense of inner void, confusion between self and others, and, sometimes, a disruption of the sense of time. These reports have been...

When meditators avoid counting during time production things get interesting.

PsyCh Journal March 2019 Joseph Glicksohn, Aviva Berkovich-Ohana

Time production (TP) with or without chronometric counting both instantiates and reflects the working of an internal clock, as originally posited by Treisman. We exploit the fact that a number of experienced meditators, who had previously participated in a study wherein TP was assessed, and who had employed chronometric counting then, would be coming back to the lab to participate in a second...

Bodily self-disturbance in schizophrenia-spectrum populations: Introducing the Benson et al. Body Disturbances Inventory (B-BODI).

PsyCh Journal March 1, 2019 Taylor L Benson, Peter Brugger, Sohee Park

Anomalous or weakened sense of self was central to early theories of schizophrenia. Recent studies have also documented disturbances in body ownership and increased susceptibility for dissociative experiences, such as the out-of-body experience in individuals with schizophrenia, but further research is necessary to clarify components of bodily self-disturbances in the schizophrenia spectrum,...

The Ganzfeld experience—A stably inducible altered state of consciousness: Effects of different auditory homogenizations

PsyCh Journal January 4, 2019 T. Schmidt, J. Prein

In the Ganzfeld technique, the visual and auditory perceptual fields are homogenized. After a short exposure to completely unstructured sensory input, participants transit into an altered state of consciousness. Visual homogenization is typically accomplished by a combination of goggles and bright light; auditory homogenization is accomplished by the presentation of unstructured auditory noise...

Differential effects of acute amphetamine and phencyclidine treatment and withdrawal from repeated amphetamine or phencyclidine treatment on social interaction and social memory in rats

PsyCh Journal June 1, 2012 Ming Li, Wei He, Rebecca Munro

Abstract: Although animal models based on amphetamine (AMPH) or phencyclidine (PCP) treatment have been used extensively to study the neurobiological and behavioral characteristics of schizophrenia, there are conflicting reports regarding their validity in modeling the negative symptoms and cognitive deficits of schizophrenia. The present study examined how acute AMPH or PCP treatment...
