Can Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) and Mindfulness be Integrated Effectively within High Performance Settings?

Journal of Rational-Emotive & Cognitive-Behavior Therapy August 23, 2022 Paul Young, Vivien Chow, Cheryl Haslam et al. 13 citations

Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy (REBT) and contemporary mindfulness share philosophical ground on the causes of emotional disturbance, acceptance, and cultivating self-awareness for healthy responses to adversity, but diverge on judging thoughts, emphasis on the present moment, and meditative practice. Mindfulness may help individuals in high-performance settings (sport, business) develop metacognitive awareness—impartially observing thinking—which could clarify how beliefs shape emotional, cognitive, and behavioral outcomes. This could aid the transition from intellectual insight to emotional rational insight within REBT. Integrating mindfulness with REBT may foster a present-focused, less distracted, more task-oriented mindset, potentially improving performance.
