The Toronto Mindfulness Scale and the State Mindfulness Scale: psychometric properties of the Spanish versions.

The Spanish versions of the Toronto Mindfulness Scale (TMS) and the State Mindfulness Scale (SMS) show adequate reliability and validity for measuring state mindfulness, though the SMS specific factors have poor reliability when controlling for the general factor. Data from six non-clinical Spanish samples (TMS n=119, SMS n=223) were analyzed using confirmatory factor analysis. The best-fitting model for the TMS was a correlated two-factor structure (curiosity and decentering). For the SMS, a bifactor structure (general factor, mindfulness of body, and mindfulness of mind) fit best. Both scales detected changes in state mindfulness after meditation practices. The patterns of correlations with measures of trait mindfulness, decentering, non-attachment, depression, anxiety, stress, affect, self-criticism, and self-reassurance were mostly as expected.

Does practice make perfect? Functional connectivity of the salience network and somatosensory network predicts response to mind-body treatments for fibromyalgia.

Mind-body treatments such as mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and a psychoeducational program (FibroQoL) reduced pain catastrophizing in patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). Using resting-state fMRI, the study found that MBSR specifically reduced functional connectivity within the sensorimotor network compared to a treatment-as-usual group. Baseline connectivity between the salience network and sensorimotor network predicted pain reduction differently for each treatment: negatively for MBSR and positively for FibroQoL, with large to very large effect sizes. Among MBSR patients with lower baseline connectivity, more mindfulness practice was linked to greater clinical improvement. These results suggest that different mind-body treatments engage distinct brain networks and that functional connectivity measures could serve as predictors of treatment response.

Combining mindfulness and cognitive training in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder: study protocol of a pilot randomized controlled trial (the NeuroMind study).

A 5-month randomized controlled trial will test whether adding Mindfulness for Health, cognitive training using the NeuronUP® platform, or their combination to usual care improves outcomes for 120 children aged 7–12 with ADHD. The study will assess ADHD symptoms, executive functions, and comorbid symptoms before and after the interventions and at a 5-month follow-up. It will also explore whether mindfulness and emotional regulation mediate clinical outcomes and whether certain characteristics predict treatment response. This is the first test of the combined intervention and of cognitive training alone in this setting, aiming to lay groundwork for a larger definitive trial.

Differential Brain Perfusion Changes Following Two Mind-Body Interventions for Fibromyalgia Patients: an Arterial Spin Labelling fMRI Study.

Mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) and a psychoeducational programme (FibroQoL) each produced distinct changes in brain activity and symptoms in people with fibromyalgia. Both treatments disrupted the typical link between clinical pain and brain perfusion, particularly in the insula, where perfusion changes correlated with pain improvement. Only FibroQoL decreased blood flow in the amygdala, and this change was accompanied by a decoupling of amygdala activity from pain catastrophizing and anxiety. Baseline blood flow in the anterior cingulate cortex and anterior insula correlated positively with pain across all patients. These findings encourage research into predictors of treatment response.

Impact of mindfulness and self-compassion on anxiety and depression: The mediating role of resilience

Mindfulness and self-compassion are linked to lower anxiety and depression, but resilience only partly explains their effect on depression, not on anxiety. In a cross-sectional survey of 860 Spanish adults, both mindfulness and self-compassion had direct negative associations with anxiety and depressive symptoms. However, indirect effects through resilience were significant only for depression, suggesting that resilience may be a mechanism through which mindfulness and self-compassion reduce depression but not anxiety.

A randomized controlled efficacy trial of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction compared to an active control group and usual care for fibromyalgia: the EUDAIMON study.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) plus usual care reduces functional impairment in fibromyalgia more than usual care alone, both immediately after treatment (large effects) and at 12-month follow-up (medium to large effects). MBSR also outperforms a multicomponent intervention (FibroQoL) plus usual care at post-treatment (medium to large effects), but long-term advantages are modest, limited to less pain catastrophising and fibromyalginess. The number needed to treat for a 20% improvement post-treatment is 4.0 for MBSR versus usual care and 5.0 for MBSR versus FibroQoL. Improvements in functional impact are mediated by reduced psychological inflexibility and increased acting with awareness.

Cost-utility and biological underpinnings of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) versus a psychoeducational programme (FibroQoL) for fibromyalgia: a 12-month randomised controlled trial (EUDAIMON study)

This 12-month randomized controlled trial will test whether adding Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) to usual care for fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) is more effective and cost-effective than usual care plus a psychoeducational program (FibroQoL) or usual care alone. The study will enroll 180 adult FMS patients and measure functional, quality of life, distress, and cost outcomes, along with brain structure and function (via MRI) and inflammatory markers (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10, and high-sensitivity CRP) in half the participants. The results are expected to clarify whether MBSR produces brain and inflammatory changes and whether it is a cost-effective add-on therapy for FMS.
