Psychedelic Microdosing, Mindfulness, and Anxiety: A Cross-Sectional Mediation Study

Journal of Psychoactive Drugs June 12, 2022 Vincent Hartong, Arnold A P Van Emmerik 11 citations

People who microdose psychedelics, either currently or in the past, report lower trait anxiety than those who have never microdosed. This association appears to be partly explained by higher trait mindfulness, particularly the facets of non-judging and non-reactivity. However, when participants who had previously taken a full psychedelic dose were excluded from the analysis, the link between microdosing and lower anxiety disappeared. The findings indicate that previous macrodose experience may account for the observed differences, and randomized controlled trials are needed to test whether microdosing itself reduces anxiety.

Comparative efficacy of imagery rehearsal therapy and prazosin in the treatment of trauma-related nightmares in adults: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.

Sleep Medicine Reviews April 1, 2020 Dilan E Yücel, Arnold A P Van Emmerik, Camille Souama et al.

A meta-analysis of 15 studies (N = 1,078) compared prazosin and imagery rehearsal therapy (IRT) for posttraumatic nightmares. Prazosin showed moderate to large effects on nightmare frequency, posttraumatic stress symptoms, and sleep quality, while IRT showed small to moderate effects. No significant differences were found between the two treatments on any outcome. The authors conclude that downgrading the recommendation for prazosin may be premature, as aggregated results show efficacy of both treatments.
