University students often experience high psychological stress, low self-esteem, and low self-efficacy, highlighting a need for mental health interventions. Mindfulness self-compassion meditation shows promise for improving psychological well-being. Integrating virtual reality, compared to an audio format, might enhance these effects. In a study with fifteen students who completed two meditation sessions (audio and VR), questionnaires measured affect, self-compassion, pleasure, and arousal, and brain waves were recorded via EEG. Both sessions significantly reduced negative affect and arousal levels, with no difference between audio and VR modalities. No significant differences were observed in brain wave frequencies. Further longitudinal research is needed to fully assess VR's added value.

People who frequently recall their dreams show larger brain responses to unexpected sounds, even when actively paying attention to a task, indicating enhanced bottom-up processing of irrelevant auditory stimuli. They also exhibit larger brain signals related to expecting and responding to target sounds, suggesting greater top-down attention recruitment. Despite these differences, their behavioral performance on attention tasks is not impaired, though it may come at a higher cognitive cost. The findings propose that in high dream recallers, increased bottom-up processing may facilitate dream recall by promoting awakening during sleep, while enhanced top-down processes may support dream recall through greater awareness or short-term memory stability of dream content.
