Healthcare August 14, 2025 Fei-Wen Lin, Ya-Hui Yang, Jiun-Yi Wang

Background: Anxiety and stress are common mental health issues that affect both psychological and physiological well-being as well as quality of life. The Tibetan Singing Bowl, which combines sound and vibration, is often used in meditation and relaxation and may offer therapeutic benefits. However, current research findings are scattered and lack systematic integration and quantitative...

Breathwork for Chronic Stress and Mental Health: Does Choosing a Specific Technique Matter?

Medical Sciences August 13, 2025 Adam Siebieszuk, Adam Filip Płoński, Marcin Baranowski 2 citations

Modern society faces a growing prevalence of mental disorders, with stress emerging as a critical factor affecting mental well-being. In recent years, breathwork has gained public and scientific recognition as a promising approach for enhancing psychological health. Despite the rapid growth in research, the field remains fragmented due to the diversity of breathing techniques. Moreover, recent...

Hallucinogen-Persisting Perception Disorder in a 16-Year-Old Adolescent

Psychopharmacology Bulletin August 12, 2025 Anna Mori-Kreiner, Arpit Aggarwal, Meelie Bordoloi 1 citation

Objective Hallucinogen-persisting Perception Disorder (HPPD) is a rare condition characterized by the re-experiencing of one or more perceptual symptoms that an individual experienced while intoxicated with a hallucinogenic substance when the individual is sober. While there are several case reports of HPPD in adult patients, there is a scarcity of documented cases in children and adolescents....

Mindfulness Meditation on Psychological Distress and Coping among Family Members of Patients Admitted in Critical Care Units: A Pilot Study

International Journal For Multidisciplinary Research August 10, 2025 Pavleen Kour, Ramaiyan Velmurugan, Lily Podder

Family members of ICU patients often experience significant psychological distress, including anxiety, depression, and stress, which can affect their well-being and coping ability. Mindfulness meditation has shown promise in alleviating such distress, but its effect on ICU patient families remains underexplored. This quasi-experimental study evaluated the impact of a 14-day mindfulness...

The meditation app revolution.

American Psychologist August 7, 2025 J. David Creswell, Simon B. Goldberg 14 citations

Smartphone-based meditation training has jumped onto the world stage, shifting how millions of people learn and practice meditation. This review examines the rapid proliferation of meditation apps and synthesizes current scientific findings on their usage patterns, efficacy, mechanisms of action, and safety. Though research lags well behind public adoption, recent randomized controlled trials...

Improved mental health outcomes and normalised spontaneous EEG activity in veterans reporting a history of traumatic brain injuries following participation in a psilocybin retreat

Frontiers in Psychiatry August 6, 2025 Grace Blest‐hopley, Giuseppe Pasculli, Simon Ruffell et al. 3 citations

Introduction Psilocybin, a serotonergic psychedelic, has shown therapeutic potential in treating mental health disorders by, amongst the many effects, promoting neuroplasticity and reorganising functional connectivity across cortical and subcortical networks involved in emotion and cognition. Veterans with traumatic brain injuries (TBI) often experience chronic neurological and psychological...

Oxytocin and the Default Mode Network: New Insights into Attachment and Self-Referential Processing

Galen Medical Journal August 5, 2025 Shingo Ueda

Recent advances in neuroscience have revealed a significant interplay between the neuropeptide oxytocin and the brain’s Default Mode Network (DMN), suggesting a pivotal role in modulating attachment and self-referential processing. This review synthesizes current findings from neuroimaging, behavioral studies, and clinical research to explore the “oxytocin-DMN axis” and its impact on social...

A dose of therapy with psilocybin - A meta-analysis of the relationship between the amount of therapy hours and treatment outcomes in psychedelic-assisted therapy

General Hospital Psychiatry August 5, 2025 Jennie Hultgren, Matthias H Hafsteinsson, Joel Gruneau Brulin 13 citations

Our findings did not support that the amount of therapy hours influence depressive outcomes in PAT. However, this interpretation should be made with caution due to small sample sizes, heterogeneity, and poor reporting of the therapeutic component across studies. Future research should apply greater methodological rigor and standardized reporting of therapy to clarify its role in PAT.

Neurobiology of psilocybin: a comprehensive overview and comparative analysis of experimental models

Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience August 5, 2025 Dotun Adeleye Adeyinka, Donelson R. Forsyth, Suzanne Currie et al. 7 citations

Psilocybin, a compound found in Psilocybe mushrooms, is emerging as a promising treatment for neurodegenerative and psychiatric disorders, including major depressive disorder. Its potential therapeutic effects stem from promoting neuroprotection, neurogenesis, and neuroplasticity, key factors in brain health. Psilocybin could help combat mild neurodegeneration by increasing synaptic density and...

Tabernanthalog, a Non-Hallucinogenic Psychedelic, Alleviates Cancer-Induced Cognitive Deficits via Serotonergic Pathways

International Journal of Molecular Sciences August 4, 2025 Masahide Arinaga, Jun Yamada, Shoichiro Maeda et al. 2 citations

Cancer-related cognitive impairment (CRCI)-encompassing anxiety, depression, and memory deficits-significantly diminishes the quality of life in patients with cancer, yet remains underrecognized in clinical practice. In this study, we investigated the therapeutic potential of tabernanthalog (TBG), a non-hallucinogenic analog of psychedelic compounds, as a novel intervention for CRCI using a...
