Abstract

The article continues the topic of the semiotics of shamanic attributes. It proposes a thesis about the identity of the drum with the costume: it duplicates the functions of the kumu clothing as a repository of sacred power. The novelty lies in the comparison of the Sakha drums with the Evenk drums in order to identify their ethnicity. The aim is to identify the common and specific features of the symbolism of the drums of the two ethnic groups. To solve this task, it has to be proven that the idea of the drum was based on the cult of totems and ancestors. The drum connects three worlds, resembling the World Tree. The methods of description, comparison, semiotics, etymology, ethnography and folklore are used. The beauty and elegance of the drums indicate a developed form of shamanism. The methodology is based on the fusion of early forms of religion.
