A systematic review and meta-analysis of eight randomized controlled trials with 293 participants found that mindfulness-based interventions meaningfully enhance flow state and trait, a condition of deep absorption linked to improved performance and well-being. The analysis showed a positive effect (SMD = 0.777) with low heterogeneity. Mindfulness likely promotes flow by improving attention, present-moment awareness, and reducing self-critical thoughts. However, half the studies had a high risk of bias, and small sample sizes warrant caution. The findings suggest mindfulness practice can foster flow, but more rigorous research is needed.
