Artificial Intelligence’s Novel “Mind-Reading” Capabilities through Neuroscience: A Challenge for Mind–Body Dualism?

Artificial intelligence that can interpret mental states from neural patterns challenges traditional mind-body dualisms—substance, interaction, property, predicate, and emergent—by correlating mental and physical states. The paper argues that these dualistic theories can adapt to AI insights, prompting a re-evaluation rather than a refutation of dualism. AI's ability to bridge mental and physical domains invigorates philosophical debate about consciousness and mind-body relationships rather than ending it.

The psychological role of music and attentional control for religious experiences in worship.

Worshipping with religious songs leads to a stronger felt presence of God than worshipping with secular music. In 60 believers, the ability to focus on God was positively linked to the intensity of the subjective religious experience. Choosing one's own worship songs produced a slightly stronger experience than using researcher-provided songs, but this difference was not statistically significant.

Religious experiences during worship are associated with large-scale brain activation patterns involving the auditory network, salience network, and default mode network, but not the network for multisensory integration. In 60 evangelical Christians who continuously rated their sense of God's presence while listening to songs, EEG microstate analysis revealed these neural correlates.
