Effectiveness of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program on Job Satisfaction and Psychological Distress of Care Workers for Older Adults.

Workplace Health & Safety July 1, 2026 Nurgul Karakurt, Meltem Oral

An 8-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) increased job satisfaction and reduced psychological distress among Turkish nursing home care workers. In a randomized experiment with 62 participants, those who received MBSR showed improved scores on the Job Satisfaction Scale and Brief Symptom Inventory compared to the control group. The control group's job satisfaction decreased and psychological distress increased over the same period. The study suggests MBSR can help mitigate the adverse psychological effects of working in stressful environments and improve care quality.

The impact of mindfulness intervention on the subjective well-being of nursing students: an experimental study.

BMC Psychology August 22, 2025 Nurgul Karakurt, Hatice Durmaz

An eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program significantly improved subjective well-being in nursing students compared to a control group that received no intervention. The experimental group showed a statistically significant increase in well-being scores after the program, while the control group's scores declined. The program consisted of two 30-40-minute sessions per week, adapted from Kabat-Zinn's model. These results suggest that integrating such mindfulness programs into nursing education could help support mental health and prevent emotional exhaustion in this vulnerable population.
