An 8-week mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR) program significantly reduced stress and improved mindfulness among university students in India. Fifty students from the University of Hyderabad were randomly assigned to either weekly MBSR sessions plus daily home practice or a no-intervention control group. Compared to controls, the MBSR group showed a significant drop in perceived stress and large improvements in observing, describing, acting with awareness, nonjudging, and nonreactivity. The findings suggest that culturally adapted mindfulness programs, such as those incorporating yoga, can be accessible, noninvasive tools to support student mental health and academic performance.
