Negative affective bias in depression following treatment with psilocybin or escitalopram – a secondary analysis from a randomized trial

Translational Psychiatry November 13, 2025 Bruna Giribaldi Cunha, David Nutt, Marieke Martens et al.

Abstract Recent clinical trial data suggests that ratings on depression scales are lowered after psilocybin therapy compared to placebo, though it is unclear what neuropsychological mechanisms underpin these effects. This study compared psilocybin, with an established antidepressant, escitalopram, to investigate whether there are shared or distinct effects on emotional information processing....

The epigenetic mechanisms of ketamine in the treatment of depression: a systematic review.

Epigenomics November 7, 2025 Ivana Leccisotti, M. Moretti, Mario Altamura et al.

AIM Ketamine antidepressant effects go beyond immediate receptor action, involving lasting transcriptional and epigenomic changes that support its rapid, long-lasting benefits. The present systematic review synthesized existing preclinical and clinical evidence on the epigenetic mechanisms of ketamine in the treatment of depression. METHODS A comprehensive search of three electronic databases...

LSD microdosing in major depressive disorder: results from an open-label trial

Neuropharmacology November 5, 2025 Dimitri Daldegan-Bueno, C Donegan, Rachael Sumner et al. 4 citations

Major depressive disorder (MDD) affects approximately 5 % of the global population. Classic psychedelics have shown promise in treating various mental health disorders. This study evaluated the feasibility and tolerability of an 8-week regimen of microdosed lysergic acid diethylamide (LSD) as a treatment for major depressive disorder in an open-label phase 2A trial (LSDDEP1). Nineteen...

Hallucinogenic drug use and depression, psychological distress and suicidality among disabled adults in the US.

Addictive Behaviors November 1, 2025 Samantha M Ross-Cypcar, Justin A Haegele, Jeanette M Garcia

While recent nationally representative studies have evaluated the association between hallucinogen use and mental health events, little is known about these associations among disabled adults. Our primary aim was to use national data from the 2021, 2022, and 2023 National Survey on Drug Use and Health (NSDUH) to determine how past-year use of specific hallucinogens is associated with disabled...

Neutral attitude toward the utilization of psychedelic therapy for depression in the United Kingdom population.

International Journal of Drug Policy November 1, 2025 Liam O Jarvis, Alexander H Jack, Niall Galbraith et al. 1 citation

The global prevalence of depression is high, and there are concerns about the therapeutic effectiveness of current treatments. Research over the past two decades has led to a new class of alternative treatments termed 'psychedelic-assisted therapy (PAT).' This study aimed to investigate the attitudes toward the application and use of psychedelic-assisted therapies in the United Kingdom...

Esketamine monotherapy efficacious in treatment‐resistant depression

The Brown University Psychopharmacology Update November 1, 2025

Twice‐weekly dosing of intranasal esketamine resulted in significant improvement in depressive symptoms compared with placebo in adults with treatment‐resistant depression, a 4‐week trial has found. Esketamine doses of 56 and 84 mg both outperformed placebo in the post‐marketing trial. Study results were published online July 2, 2025, in JAMA Psychiatry.

Exploring the potential psychological predictors associated with changes in depression, anxiety, and well-being following naturalistic psychedelic use.

Journal of Psychiatric Research November 1, 2025 Felipe Herrmann, Grant Jones, Daniel M Low et al.

Although research shows that psychedelic use may lead to improvement in mental health and well-being, the underlying changes in psychological predictors associated with these improvements remain unclear. 161 participants were recruited in a prospective online survey assessing naturalistic psychedelic use. We used lasso regression to assess how 19 distinct changes in psychological variables...

Role of mycelia derived from in vitro cultures of Amanita spp. as a potential source of bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential for the mitigation and management of depressive disorders.

Psychiatria Polska October 31, 2025 Katarzyna Kała, Katarzyna Sułkowska‐ziaja, Joanna Piotrowska et al.

Mushrooms of the Amanita genus are considered among the most toxic, causing severe poisoning, often resulting in death. However, of the 707 described species within this genus, only around a dozen contain the toxic octapeptides classified as amanitotoxins and phallotoxins. While most representatives of the genus are considered inedible species, there are a few exceptions that are palatable...
