Topics Shamanism
Key points Argues that the gobijeon is a paper deity form enshrined before the shrine altar in Seoul shamanism, predating altar paintings, made through folding, cutting, sweeping, unfolding, and brushing, and organized by paired "gyeol" and "sok" construction and deity-specific principles. Contends that, unlike paper objects consumed in gut rituals, it is permanently enshrined and space-centered, and has been transmitted through limited lineages and individual skill with very few confirmed examples.
