Abstract
This chapter explores the mechanisms of collective trauma and collective healing and their manifestations in the Indian context. While mutual support, shared experiences, trauma informed approach and justice influence healing in communities, Indian texts and knowledge systems also give importance to the role of contemplative practices in healing. The chapter tries to overcome the perception that contemplative practices like yoga, meditation, mindfulness and rituals are only suited to individual benefits and individual coping of trauma and discusses its intersection with community healing. Finally, this chapter also highlights challenges and implications of this intersection in India.
