Abstract
India’s progressing transition toward modernization and its aspiration for Vikshit Bharat has led to significant economic and technological growth; however, this shift has also heightened mental health issues. Factors such as social change, urbanisation, globalization, and the eroding of traditional support systems have resulted in emotional turmoil, especially among the youth, migrants, and those undergoing cultural transitions. This paper explores psychological trauma and identity crisis through the perspective of Indian psychology and a holistic understanding of consciousness, highlighting indigenous concepts rooted in ancient philosophical teachings. By referencing ideas such as Atman, Chitta, Manas, and the holistic integration of mind-body-spirit, this study highlights how Indian psychological perspectives offer culturally relevant and sustainable strategies for mental health. Practices such as yoga, meditation, Ayurveda and mindfulness are explored as effective methods for managing emotions, healing from trauma, and achieving self-awareness. This paper advocates for the merging of traditional Indian healing methods with modern psychological therapies to develop a well-rounded mental health framework. By harmonizing mental health strategies with cultural values and spiritual awareness, India can enhance emotional strength and psychological stability while progressing materially in a rapidly transforming society.
