Abstract
Mindfulness has become one of the most relevant approaches for promoting mental health in contemporary society, being widely applied in clinical, educational, and organizational contexts. It is characterized by the ability to focus attention on the present moment intentionally and without judgment, promoting greater awareness of internal and external experiences. This article aims to analyze mindfulness from a psychological perspective, considering its theoretical foundations, scientific evidence, and applications in mental health. This is a qualitative literature review based on recent and relevant studies, with emphasis on Brazilian research. The findings indicate that mindfulness-based interventions are associated with reductions in stress, anxiety, and depression, as well as improvements in emotional regulation, attention, and quality of life. It is also highlighted as an effective preventive and therapeutic tool. It is concluded that mindfulness is a promising approach whose application requires theoretical deepening and contextual adaptation.
