Abstract

Âke Hultkrantz is a researcher of Swedish comparative religion. He began his career as field study of American Indians from the graduate period. This studying determinated his later life of field study. Until his die at 2006 he studied firstly American Indians and then religion of Asian people, especially shamanism. He felt the inadequacy of researcher's methodology that was used for the religion of modern people to understanding religion of primitive people. Because of the influence of environment on human and society in the primitive societies very much than modern society, he argued to take into consideration of environment to understanding the religion of primitive societies. Henceforth he developed a religio-ecological approach and tried to theorize and practice it. He said that aim of this approach is to illustrate the influence of environment on the forming and practising of these religion, but not to trace the origin of religion and God to environment.
