Esketamine nasal spray reduces depressive symptoms more effectively than a placebo or other treatments like quetiapine for people with treatment-resistant depression. Many patients felt better within days, and some benefits lasted weeks or months after stopping treatment. Most side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, and blood pressure changes, were mild to moderate and resolved within two hours. No serious side effects or deaths were reported. Gathering patient feedback during treatment helped doctors create better care plans. Some studies had small sample sizes, and long-term effects beyond 12 months are not well documented. Ongoing phase 3 studies aim to clarify optimal dosages and long-term outcomes.

Physiological data from 550 students showed that high anxiety is linked to irregular, shallow breathing and EEG changes—increased beta and decreased alpha power. A Kriya yoga intervention (regulated pranayama and calming postures) for a subset of anxious students reduced anxiety, increased alpha activity, decreased high-beta activity, and improved respiratory signals. A Random Forest classifier distinguished high-anxiety from post-intervention states with 84% accuracy. The authors propose that combining yoga, physiological monitoring, and machine learning offers a nonpharmacological approach to mental health and emotional management.

Mindfulness in India has shifted from its ancient roots in Sanatan philosophy and the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) into a range of practices, from spiritual discipline to secular clinical interventions. Interviews with 25 Indian meditators from Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore who practice Vipassana, yoga, and dhyana revealed that they apply mindfulness to daily life for emotional regulation and stress management. Participants reported improved emotional control, reduced anxiety and depression symptoms, and practical benefits in work and family settings. They emphasized that Sanatan values like witness consciousness, selfless action, and non-violence enhance their practice.

A structured review of meditation research using EEG, neuroimaging, and brain–computer interfaces finds that meditation consistently increases alpha and theta brainwave activity, enhances neural coherence, and modulates networks for attention and emotional regulation. However, challenges remain, including limited dataset diversity, lack of standardized protocols, and minimal use of real-time adaptive systems. The authors propose an integrated framework combining standardized signal acquisition, machine learning, and real-time feedback for personalized meditation assessment, aiming to bridge neuroscience and engineering for scalable mental health and cognitive enhancement tools.

A pilot study with 50 fourth-year BSc Nursing students in Mathura, India, tested whether a brief pre-class meditation improved learning and academic self-efficacy. The intervention group showed significant gains in knowledge scores over time, and their posttest 2 scores were higher (21.48 ± 5.51) than controls (18.72 ± 6.86), but between-group differences were not statistically significant. Academic self-efficacy increased in both groups, with a stronger trend in the meditation group, yet again between-group differences were non-significant. The authors suggest pre-class meditation has potential to enhance cognitive readiness and confidence in nursing education.

Water-based contemplative practices, such as underwater meditation, ice baths, and mindful immersion in natural waters, can produce psychological and physiological benefits. A new neurobiological model proposes that these practices induce a 'Blue Mind State' characterized by coherence of the Default Mode Network (DMN) rather than its suppression, along with increased heart rate variability, enhanced vagal tone, reduced sympathetic arousal, improved attentional control, emotional stability, and reduced anxiety and ADHD symptoms. The model integrates neuroscience, cardiophysiology, hydrodynamics, and breathwork science, presenting underwater meditation as a tool for restoring autonomic balance and mental well-being.
