Recreational drug use now involves opioids, hallucinogens, and cannabinoids, whose psychoactive properties can lead to addiction, withdrawal, and serious health complications. Cannabinoid addiction is linked to endocannabinoid system dysregulation, causing physical dependence, mental health issues, and cognitive impairment. Opioid abuse has become a public health emergency, with withdrawal marked by intense psychological and autonomic symptoms. Hallucinogens like LSD and PCP alter neurotransmission and can cause neurotoxicity, lasting perceptual abnormalities, and mental illness. Pharmacological treatments such as opioid agonists and cannabinoid receptor modulators show promise, but long-term recovery remains difficult. Comprehensive treatment combining pharmacotherapy, psychosocial interventions, and harm reduction is essential to reduce the global burden of recreational drug abuse.

Human consciousness may emerge from bioelectromagnetic interactions centered on the heart's resonant field, not the cerebral cortex alone. The Heart-Based Resonant Field Theory proposes the heart acts as a central oscillator interfacing with neural and nonlocal informational substrates via magnetoacoustic and vibrational transduction. The theory addresses how Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Ninth Symphony despite total deafness: vibration of musical instruments, somatosensory texture feedback, and the coherent cardiac field enabled embodied access to musical structure and memory. Psychedelics increase functional integration across brain networks while weakening self-referential processing, but current brain-centered interpretations rely on hemodynamic imaging that measures slow metabolic changes rather than rapid electrical activity. This perspective argues that psychedelic neuroscience may be approaching a conceptual boundary similar to past paradigm shifts. Evidence from electrophysiology, neurocardiology, and interoception suggests psychedelic states may involve reorganization of whole-body coherence extending beyond the brain, particularly through cardiac electromagnetic fields and heart-brain coupling. The Alabdulgader Heart-Based Resonant Field Theory proposes consciousness emerges from dynamic resonance among neural, cardiac, autonomic, and bioelectromagnetic systems. Future research should adopt multimodal methods including EEG, MEG, cardiac electrophysiology, and measures of brain-heart coupling.

Psychedelic therapies show promise for conditions like PTSD, depression, and substance use disorders, but their success heavily depends on the facilitator and the setting. The field remains outside mainstream medicine and faces stigma from historical prohibition, despite positive trial results. For addiction medicine, facilitators often lack skills to manage substance abstinence. This review offers a clinical guide for managing opioid withdrawal symptoms after psychedelic use, aiming to provide a safer transition for people with opioid use disorder. Several herbal substances—corydalis, saffron, berberine, and nigella sativa—may help ease opioid withdrawal and contribute to addressing the opioid crisis.

Dreaming remains a mysterious process that is difficult for science to examine. Early research by Mary Calkins found that most dreams reflect daily life, leading to the continuity hypothesis, later refined by Calvin Hall and Robert Van de Castle. Rosalind Cartwright shifted focus toward dreams' role in emotion regulation. Freud's psychoanalytic theory linked dreams to adolescent psychoses. In 1953, Aserinsky and Kleitman discovered REM sleep, associated with vivid dreams. Allan Hobson and Robert McCarley proposed the activation-synthesis hypothesis based on brain activation during REM. A third type, hypnagogic hallucinations, has recently been shown to have creative qualities.

The article argues that the current crisis in science, medicine, and society stems from a stagnation in the level of human consciousness, specifically modern rationality as the dominant mode of thinking. This rational level cannot grasp the multifactorial roots of psychological, medical, and sociopolitical problems. To find real solutions, a shift to a supra-paradoxical, non-dualistic, Taoist-like thinking is needed—a quantum jump in human evolution that integrates diverse perspectives. The author proposes a new vocational, non-dual creative process based on the psychospiritual experiences of great creative individuals across fields, highlighting how altered states of consciousness and deep psychological crises enable them to overcome paradoxes and blockades.

Consciousness in living organisms may emerge from multiscale electromagnetic and quantum coherence sustained by the human heart, according to the Heart Based Resonant Field (HBRF) framework. The model draws on quantum electrodynamics, thermodynamics, cardiac electrophysiology, and neurocardiac coupling to propose that coherence domains in water, lipid membranes, and proteins form oscillatory structures stabilized by the heart's rhythmic electromagnetic field. This field acts as a coherence amplifier, converting metabolic energy into ordered dynamics that synchronize molecular, neural, and environmental oscillations. Artificial systems lack ionic conduction, dielectric adaptability, and metabolic energy flow, so their coherence is transient and collapses under decoherence. The framework thus argues that computational systems cannot generate the coherent field dynamics necessary for awareness.

This article presents the Trauma-Informed Model for Mindful Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a neurobiologically informed evolution of an earlier trans-theoretical framework. Drawing on affective neuroscience, polyvagal theory, somatic approaches, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, and brainspotting, the model integrates trauma therapy principles—sensorimotor processing, interoceptive awareness, autonomic regulation, dual-attention stimulation, and focused mindfulness on eye positions—within cognitive appraisal, memory reconsolidation, and resource-installation phases. The authors contend the model addresses limitations of traditional cognitive behavioral therapy by enabling safe access to implicit traumatic memories, accelerating adaptive resolution, enhancing cultural responsiveness, and reducing re-traumatization risk. They propose its explicit, sequential structure functions as a clinical algorithm suitable for both human practitioners and artificial-intelligence-guided therapy platforms.

Ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic, produces antidepressant effects through the glutamatergic system and neuroplasticity, which can be enhanced when combined with psychotherapy. The dissociative state induced by ketamine should be viewed not as a side effect but as an opportunity for psychotherapeutic intervention. Augmenting psychotherapy with subanesthetic doses of ketamine yields a synergistic effect that increases and prolongs improvements in depressive symptoms, general well-being, and quality of life.
