DHARANA AND THE FORMATION OF OBJECT RELATIONS: A KLEINIAN READING OF YOGIC CONCENTRATION

International Journal of Integrative Health and Mind-Body Medicine December 10, 2025 Vivek Maheshwari

Concentration practices in yoga, specifically Patanjali's concept of Dharana, can be understood through psychoanalytic object relations theory. This paper argues that Dharana's method of progressively internalizing external objects parallels Melanie Klein's theories of introjection, projection, and the shift from paranoid-schizoid to depressive positions. Yogic concentration thus functions as a psychological technique for reworking early object relations, offering insights for both psychoanalysis and contemplative practice.

VIPASSANA- NAVIGATING TOWARDS MENTAL PEACE

Divyayatan - A Journal of Lakulish Yoga University September 3, 2024 Isha Patwa, Vivek Maheshwari

Vipassana, an ancient mindfulness meditation rooted in yoga, is gaining recognition as a comprehensive approach to mental health and well-being. The practice integrates metaphysical aspects of mind and spirit with the body. Numerous studies indicate that Vipassana leads to emotional stability, increased life satisfaction, sharper cognitive and perceptual abilities, and positive psychological well-being. Research also suggests it reduces violence and crime toward oneself and others while promoting mental tranquility, resilience, love, compassion, and forgiveness. The objective of the work is to underscore Vipassana as a pathway to achieving mental peace.
