The subjective nature of consciousness poses a major challenge for scientific investigation. Various methodologies have been developed to address this problem. Heterophenomenology and neurophenomenology emerge as two competing approaches. This paper critically examines these methodologies and argues that neurophenomenology is a competent methodology for studying the subjective nature of consciousness, whereas heterophenomenology, due to its internal inconsistencies, is inadequate and unsuitable for this purpose.
