Psychonautical engineering: Synergizing the magic of mindfulness, mushrooms, and mindsets for police officer well-being
Journal of Community Safety and Well-Being September 14, 2023 Renae M. Stevenson
Policing exposes officers to negative health outcomes, yet current mental health approaches are insufficient. The war on drugs has been misguided, and Canadian legislators are shifting toward a public health lens. Peace officers could benefit from combining psilocybin with mindfulness-based psychotherapy to restore peace in their own minds and dysregulated nervous systems. Western science is just beginning to explore this fusion, which builds on centuries of Indigenous and Eastern contemplative wisdom. This synergy may amplify hope and offer a key to neurogenesis of resilience, as argued by a retired Canadian drug-war agent.
