Mushrooms have long been used as food for their nutritional content and health benefits. In Indonesia, local communities often forage wild edible mushrooms, including Termitomyces, which is difficult to distinguish from the morphologically similar Inocybe. Most Inocybe species cause poisoning, though a few are used as food or medicine. Over the past 10 years, 7 Inocybe poisoning cases occurred in Indonesia, involving 31 victims, one of whom died. Inocybe contains toxic compounds muscarine and psilocybin. A major obstacle to identifying poisonous mushrooms is the lack of information, preservation, or documentation of samples. Basic knowledge of Inocybe mycology and its toxicity is essential to prevent future wild mushroom poisoning in Indonesia.
