A New Concept and Further Support for the Importance and Occurrence of 3,4-Dimethoxyphenylethylamine (DMPEA) in Urine of Schizophrenic Patients

Pharmacology May 28, 2008 D.a. Kalbhen, G. Braun

The biogenic formation of certain methylated derivatives of catecholamines and serotonin have been discussed in causal connection with schizophrenia. Positive and negative results by various research groups in detecting 3,4-dimethoxyphenylethylamine (DMPEA) in urine of schizophrenics have led to contradictory interpretations of the importance of DMPEA in urine as an indicator of schizophrenia....

Cerebral and peripheral demethylation of psychotomimetics measured by expired 14CO2.

International journal of radiation applications and instrumentation. Part B, Nuclear medicine and biology 1989 Thornton W. Sargent, U Braun, Gisela Braun et al. 2 citations

Demethylation of psychotomimetic compounds was measured by labeling each methyl and methoxy substitutent separately with 14C and injecting it into rats, intravenously and intracerebrally. Expired [14C]CO2 was measured continuously and the resultant multi-exponential curves yielded rates and integral demethylation. 5-Methoxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine was not demethylated, eliminating one proposed...

Synthesis of 123I‐labelled 4‐iodo‐2, 5‐dimethoxyphenylisopropylamine

Journal of Labelled Compounds and Radiopharmaceuticals 1978 Gisela Braun, Alexander T. Shulgin, Thornton W. Sargent 9 citations

AbstractA rapid and convenient synthesis of the psychotomimetic agent 4‐iodo‐2, 5‐dimethoxyphenylisopropylamine is described, incorporating the radioisotope 123I (T1/2 13 hr). With the amine function of 2, 5‐dimethoxyphenylisopropylamine blocked as the phthalimide, it was found that the aromatic 4‐position could be directly iodinated with iodine monochloride. The phthalic acid moiety was...
