Impact of Yoga on Mental Health, Mindfulness and Academic Performance in Higher Education: A Review

Zenodo (CERN European Organization for Nuclear Research) March 11, 2026 Kunal Anil Lanjewar

This review consolidates research on yoga's effects on university students' mental health, mindfulness, and academic performance. Evidence suggests regular yoga practice reduces stress and anxiety, improves emotional balance, enhances mindfulness, and increases self-awareness. These benefits are often accompanied by improved attention, cognitive functioning, and learning efficiency, which may positively influence academic outcomes. Although current research largely focuses on short-term interventions, integrating yoga into university wellness initiatives or daily routines may be an accessible and cost-effective strategy to promote mental well-being and resilience. Further longitudinal research is needed to understand long-term outcomes.
