The Effectiveness of Adolescent-centered Mindfulness Therapy on Academic Engagement and Buoyancy in Anxious Middle School Students

January 1, 2024 Elahe Nikoei Esfahani, Mansoureh Bahramipour Esfahani, Mohsen Golparvar

Adolescent-centered mindfulness therapy improved academic engagement and academic buoyancy in anxious middle school students. In a quasi-experimental study, 34 anxious students were randomly assigned to an experimental group receiving ten weekly 90-minute mindfulness sessions or a control group. Mixed ANOVA showed significant effects on academic engagement (F=41.68, partial eta squared=0.56) and academic buoyancy (F=44.22, partial eta squared=0.58), with gains maintained at a two-month follow-up. The authors conclude that mindful practices such as mindful eating, breathing, and walking enhance mindful skills, thereby boosting engagement and buoyancy.
