Toward the Mathematics of Consciousness
The MIT Press eBooks December 16, 2025 Oded Maimon, Moshe Klein
The authors argue that consciousness remains the central unsolved mystery in science and that progress requires a new mathematical language and conceptual framework. They propose a novel paradigm introducing a new type of number and a form of logic called 'soft logic,' drawing on earlier work by Kant and others. This mathematical model is intended to bridge inner subjective experience, the external world, and their interaction. The authors contend that pure consciousness is eternal and spontaneously exists, then evolves to generate lived experiences. The paper is presented as a foundational contribution to a rigorous science of consciousness.
