Effects of Vedic mantras on the human body: A scientific exploration

International Journal of Yogic Human Movement and Sports Sciences January 1, 2025 Kuntal Thakur 1 citation

Chanting Vedic mantras, especially sacred sounds, produces measurable physiological and psychological effects, including reduced stress and improved cognitive function. The review synthesizes evidence from multiple studies showing that rhythmic sound vibrations in Sanskrit alter brainwave patterns and autonomic nervous system activity. These effects are attributed to the specific acoustic properties of the mantras and the focused attention required during chanting. The authors argue that traditional claims about mantras' spiritual and therapeutic benefits are gaining empirical support from modern scientific investigations.

The role of meditation in alleviating PTSD: insights from research

International Journal of Sports Health and Physical Education July 1, 2025 Kuntal Thakur

Meditation, particularly Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction and Transcendental Meditation, shows promise as a complementary treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. A review of 28 studies found that meditation aids emotional control, reduces stress, and improves overall mental health. A Chi-square test showed no strong association between meditation type and symptom reduction, but effect sizes were moderate to strong (Cohen's d > 0.5), supporting meditation's therapeutic value. Variability in techniques and participant adherence remain challenges. More large-scale randomized controlled trials are needed to establish standardized protocols and evaluate long-term effectiveness.

The mindfulpath: Yoga as a gateway to meditation

International Journal of Physiology Nutrition and Physical Education January 1, 2025 Kuntal Thakur

Regular yoga practice improves mindfulness, stress reduction, attention control, and emotional resilience by integrating physical movement with focused attention and breath regulation. Yoga enhances parasympathetic nervous system activation and reduces cortisol levels. As a multimodal practice, it offers a holistic gateway to mindfulness meditation, supporting self-awareness and emotional balance in wellness and mental health interventions.
