Mitigating Emotion Dysregulation in Adolescents: The Effectiveness of Vipassana Meditation

Российский психологический журнал December 30, 2023 Santwana Mani, Roopali Sharma, Navin Kumar

Adolescents who practiced Vipassana meditation daily were better at regulating their emotions than those who did not meditate. In a study of 60 adolescents, those who meditated showed lower emotional dysregulation, with the meditation practice explaining 77.9% of the variance in emotion regulation scores. The effect size was large, indicating a strong impact of Vipassana meditation on helping adolescents manage mood swings, stress, and frustration. The findings suggest that regular Vipassana meditation may support emotional development in young people.

A Focused Approach to Mindful Attention Awareness and Emotion Regulation: Vipassana Meditation

Mind and Society February 9, 2023 Santwana Mani, Prabhat Kumar Mishra

People who regularly practice Vipassana meditation show higher mindful attention awareness and better emotion regulation compared with non-meditators. Among 248 participants, 123 were experienced Vipassana meditators who had meditated at least five times weekly for two years and completed at least one 10-day course; 125 were non-meditators. Scores on the Mindfulness Attention Awareness Scale and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation scale revealed a significant relationship between mindful awareness and emotion regulation, and a significant difference between the two groups. The findings suggest Vipassana meditation is associated with improved emotional regulation.
