Evaluating the Effectiveness of a Short-Term Intensive Mindfulness-Based Skills Training Program in Adolescents: a Real-World Group-Based Study

Lecture Notes in Education Psychology and Public Media May 25, 2026 Diyun Zheng, Haolun Li

A one-week intensive mindfulness-based skills training program for adolescents (ages 12–22) reduced tension-anxiety and fatigue, and improved observing and non-reactivity facets of mindfulness. However, depression and perceived stress scores increased, suggesting that heightened emotional awareness without adequate coping strategies like acceptance and loving-kindness may be detrimental. The program offers greater accessibility and flexibility than the standard eight-week mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, but effects were limited by the small sample size and non-randomized design.
