Introspective Interest and Insight in the Context of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction: a Randomized Trial

In a randomized controlled trial of mindfulness-based stress reduction (MBSR), increases in introspective insight—but not introspective interest—mediated favorable changes in perceived stress, negative affect, positive affect, and psychological quality of life, even after accounting for changes in mindfulness skills. Neither introspective interest nor insight moderated MBSR's effects. The findings suggest that cultivating introspective insight may be a key mechanism through which mindfulness-based interventions improve well-being.
