Machine Minds: The Blueprint of Artificial Consciousness

A design approach for building a sentient artificial agent that could exhibit humanlike consciousness is proposed. The paper discusses whether such an agent would be indistinguishable from a human being and notes that while human mental evolution has been shaped by Darwinian adaptation, the evolution of synthetic minds powered by artificial cognition is much faster. It considers that the mental embodiment of consciousness in machines may become reality, but prior debates about how to decode and cipher consciousness in machines—often considered a nonentity—and what the true essence of such artificial consciousness would be are addressed. The paper aims to shed new light on design and developmental aspects of artificial consciousness.
