Skinner, Maslow, and Psilocybin

Journal of Humanistic Psychology July 1, 1993 Robert S. Gable 3 citations

This article describes a personal experience of altered consciousness as a result of ingesting "magic mushrooms" (psilocybin). It also briefly notes the reactions of Fred Skinner and Abraham Maslow to a report to them of this experience made by the author when he was a graduate student 30 years ago. Familiarity with the effects of hallucinogens may facilitate communication with terminally ill...

Synthesis of Baeocystin, a natural Psilocybin Analogue

Archiv der Pharmazie 1988 Rudolf Brenneisen, Stefan Borner, Nelly Peter‐oesch et al. 8 citations

Abstract Baeocystin ( 7 ) (4‐phosphoryloxy‐N‐methyltryptamine) has been synthesized starting from 2‐methyl‐3‐nitrophenol ( 1 ). The spectral data (UV, IR, 1 H‐, 31 P‐, 13 C‐NMR, MS) are identical with those of 7 isolated from Psilocybe semilanceata .

Vorkommen von Psilocybin und Baeocystin in Fruchtkörpern vonPluteus salicinus

Planta Medica June 1, 1987 J. Gartz 10 citations

Using HPLC and TLC, psilocybin and baeocystin but not psilocin were found in extracts of dried fruit bodies of PLUTEUS SALICINUS. Caps contain more psilocybin than stems. The amount of psilocybin varies and was as high as 1.57% in the caps. Urea was also detected. This substance is virtually exclusively localized in the caps. Baeocystin and tryptophan were also found only in the caps. There was...

Psilocybin in Fruchtkörpern vonInocybe aeruginascens

Planta Medica April 1, 1986 Marta Semerdžieva, M. Wurst, T. Koza et al. 20 citations

Psilocybin was quantitatively determined in methanolic extracts of dried fruiting-bodies of the basidiomycete Inocybe aeruginas-cens and its content was compared with that in Psilocybe bohemica and P. semilanceata. By menas of HPLC it was found that the content of psilocybin in Inocybe aeruginascens is lower than in Psilocybe species. Similarly to Psilocybe, the content of psilocybin in Inocybe...

Occurrence of Psilocybin in Various Higher Fungi from Several European Countries

Planta Medica October 1, 1985 T. Stijve, Th.w. Kuyper 43 citations

Using high performance liquid and thin-layer chromatographic methods more than 100 species of fungi from Europe belonging to 18 genera were analysed for the hallucinogenic compound psilocybin and for some related tryptamine derivatives. Psilocybin, psilocin and/or baeocystin were found in 3 PSILOCYBE 1 PANAEOLUS, 5 INOCYBES and one PLUTEUS. PSILOCYBE SEMILANCEATA and PANAEOLUS SUBBALTEATUS...

A Technique for the Rapid Isolation and Identification of Psilocin from Psilocin/Psilocybin-Containing Mushrooms

Journal of Forensic Sciences July 1, 1985 Re Lee 8 citations

Abstract A method has been developed for the rapid isolation and identification of psilocin from psilocin/psilocybin-containing mushrooms. Based on the difference in the solubility properties in butyl chloride of psilocin and other constituents present in psilocin/psilocybin-containing mushrooms, psilocin was easily separated in pure form.

An Aqueous-Organic Extraction Method for the Isolation and Identification of Psilocin from Hallucinogenic Mushrooms

Journal of Forensic Sciences 1985 Jf Casale 20 citations

Abstract A simple aqueous extraction method for the isolation and identification of psilocin from Psilocybe cubensis mushrooms is reported. This method employs a dephosphorylation of the phosphate ester to psilocin, which facilitates a greater product yield and simplifies identification. Psilocin extracted by this method is sufficiently concentrated and free of cocontaminants to allow...

Detection of Psilocybin and Psilocin in Norwegian Species ofPluteusandConocybe

Planta Medica August 1, 1984 Anders Christiansen, Knut Rasmussen, Klaus Høiland 13 citations

A screening of Norwegian mushrooms for the presence of hallucinogenic indole alkaloids was carried out using HPLC with ultraviolet, fluorescence and electrochemical detection. The analysis revealed psilocybin and psilocin in two mushroom species: PLUTEUS SALICINUS and CONOCYBE CYANOPUS. The content of psilocybin and psilocin in dried material of PLUTEUS SALICINUS was determined to be 0.35% and...

Psilocybin in FinnishPsilocybe semilanceata

Planta Medica June 1, 1984 J. Jokiranta, S. Mustola, E. Ohenoja et al. 7 citations

The use of a hallucinogenic mushroom, PSILOCYBE SEMILANCEATA, has been occasionally reported in Finland, where the species is widely distributed. We have determined, by HPLC, the content of psilocybin and psilocin in P. SEMILANCEATA samples collected from different parts of Finland; the psilocybin content was found to be high (0.62-2.37%, mean 1.42% of dry weight), some samples also contained...
