A dose of therapy with psilocybin - A meta-analysis of the relationship between the amount of therapy hours and treatment outcomes in psychedelic-assisted therapy

General Hospital Psychiatry August 5, 2025 Jennie Hultgren, Matthias H Hafsteinsson, Joel Gruneau Brulin 13 citations

Our findings did not support that the amount of therapy hours influence depressive outcomes in PAT. However, this interpretation should be made with caution due to small sample sizes, heterogeneity, and poor reporting of the therapeutic component across studies. Future research should apply greater methodological rigor and standardized reporting of therapy to clarify its role in PAT.

Psilocybin could help combat mild neurodegeneration by increasing synaptic density and...

Response to emotional stimuli weaker in SSRI users compared with psilocybin

The Brown University Psychopharmacology Update August 4, 2025

Use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) antidepressants has been associated with reduced intensity of emotional experience. Conversely, some research has shown that use of psilocybin in patients with depression leads to an increase in responsiveness to emotional face stimuli, suggesting that the psychedelic generates a transient elevation in mood. Investigators conducted a...

Psilocybin and Death Anxiety: A Dual-Mechanism Approach to Existential Distress

August 1, 2025 Annabelle Swain

This literature review looks at how psilocybin, the active compound in "magic mushrooms," can help people deal with death anxiety; the deep fear of dying or losing control that shows up in lots of mental health struggles. While traditional treatments like SSRIs and talk therapy work for some people, they don't always get to the root of the problem. Psilocybin works differently. It changes brain...
