| Key findings | In Study 1, adults practicing Loving-Kindness Smile Meditation showed statistically significant improvements at post-test and follow-up, relative to a waitlist group, on self-compassion, self-esteem, compassionate love, social connectedness, forgiveness, and spirituality-related variables. Study 2 focus groups with 7 participants yielded 13 categories of reported changes, including relaxation and reduced stress, less anger and more positive emotion, greater awareness and empathy, and increased connection to and acceptance of others. The authors discuss these findings in relation to early Buddhist loving-kindness meditation research. |
