Published Research on the Maharishi Effect by Type and Level

Abstract

This list of 92 scientific papers and books documents the Maharishi Effect—the effect of individuals or groups practicing the Transcendental Meditation and/or TM-Sidhi program on conflict-related variables and other social and economic indicators. Thirty-eight research papers have been published in peer-reviewed journals or professional conference proceedings. An additional 18 papers have been published in research anthologies, and there are four papers on physiological variables associated with the Maharishi Effect. Twenty-eight theoretical and review papers, along with four books complete the list, with a total of 24 international peer-reviewed journals having published research on the Maharishi Effect since 1981, although the first published studies appeared in 1977. We updated this list of research papers on the Maharishi Effect in early December 2023 in preparation for, and to coincide with, the World Peace Assembly held in Hyderabad, India from 29 December 2023—12 January 2024. The reason for updating the list was that the Assembly to be attended by 10,000 participants would attract attention and we wanted scientists and educators who would be asked to speak about the Maharishi Effect to have the most complete information available. We now make our reverse chronological list available to a wider readership through the Journal of Maharishi Vedic Research Institute.
