Abstract
Moral values play an important role in shaping responsible, ethical, and socially constructive behavior among college students. During higher education, students experience significant academic, social, and personal changes that may influence their attitudes, values, decision-making, and interpersonal relationships. Meditation and spirituality have received increasing attention as approaches for promoting self-awareness, emotional regulation, compassion, ethical awareness, and positive behavioral development. The present review examines the role of meditation and spirituality in enhancing moral values among college students by synthesizing findings from existing empirical studies, systematic reviews, and relevant theoretical literature. The reviewed evidence suggests that regular meditation practices may promote inner awareness, emotional stability, self-discipline, empathy, compassion, and prosocial behavior, while spiritual engagement may strengthen meaning in life, ethical awareness, responsibility, and value-oriented decision-making. The integration of meditation and spirituality may therefore provide a holistic approach to the development of moral values and positive character among college students. However, variations in meditation practices, definitions of spirituality and moral values, research designs, and cultural contexts limit direct comparison across studies. Further longitudinal and well-designed empirical research is recommended to establish the long-term effects and mechanisms through which meditation and spirituality contribute to moral development among college students. Overall, the available literature indicates that meditation and spirituality have considerable potential to support moral and holistic development in higher education.
