Abstract

Abstract The perception of time is an indispensable facet of human consciousness, and may in fact be dynamically present in primates and other species, albeit with different manifestations. Moreover, contrary to the physical measures of time, cognitive temporal perception may be subjectively affected by both internal and environmental cues. Here we review the evidence for the potential role of the auditory system in shaping the cortical measures of time, and propose possible auditory methods for studying this aspect of consciousness.
