Abstract
Request for Proposals - Exploring expanded consciousness and endogenous DMT Sponsor: DMT Quest Aim of Funding This funding seeks to advance scientific understanding of consciousness, human potential, and the mechanisms underlying expanded awareness. Eligible research may investigate endogenous N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) and its role in human consciousness, but we also welcome innovative studies exploring consciousness through other modalities including energy healing, breathwork, novel neuroscience approaches, and integrative mind-body interventions. Eligible projects should investigate mechanisms, functions, and implications of consciousness-altering practices and compounds, with particular focus on their relationship to neuroplasticity, mental health, brain function, and human optimization. Research may encompass neurobiological, psychological, phenomenological, clinical, or innovative methodological approaches to understanding consciousness and human potential. Rationale Endogenous DMT represents one of the most intriguing frontiers in consciousness research, but it is part of a broader landscape of consciousness-altering mechanisms that remain poorly understood. Recent discoveries have revealed that DMT occurs naturally in human tissues at concentrations comparable to established neurotransmitters like serotonin, suggesting fundamental physiological roles that extend far beyond traditional pharmacological paradigms. Similarly, emerging research on energy healing, advanced breathing techniques, and novel animal models of consciousness suggests that our understanding of awareness, healing, and human potential is still in its infancy. DMT Quest is particularly interested in research that explores the deeper implications of consciousness research for human potential, awareness expansion, and the fundamental nature of perception and reality. We seek studies that combine scientific rigor with openness to the profound possibilities suggested by consciousness research, regardless of the specific modality or approach. Funding $500,000–$1,000,000 in ResearchCoin (RSC) is available to support this initial iteration, which may include data collection, laboratory analysis, and reporting. Disclaimers and Open Science Commitment Preregistration: All selected applicants must preregister their study protocol on ResearchHub to be considered for funding. Open-Access Data Sharing: By participating, applicants agree to share data generated through this research in an open-access repository. This ensures transparency and facilitates the scientific community's engagement with the findings. Preprint: Researchers are encouraged to publish a preprint of their findings on ResearchHub. Progress Updates: Researchers are encouraged to share regular updates (e.g. monthly) and will receive ResearchCoin tips for updates shared.
