Everyday Sound Meditation and Self-Regulation in Modern Individuals: An Integrated Model Based on Walking Meditation and Harmonious Attunement

The Korean Society of Science & Art March 31, 2026 Joo Yeon Lee

This study proposes an integrated model that examines how everyday sound environments influence self-regulation through causal pathways, incorporating principles of walking meditation from the Buddhist tradition and the concept of 'attunement' (eoulrim). While existing music-based meditation research has shown that structured auditory stimuli enhance metacognition and empathy, the self-regulatory mechanisms in everyday sound contexts have been underexplored. The model suggests that everyday sound meditation strengthens self-regulation by mediating sensory-based attention stability and metacognition, ultimately promoting emotional and relational attunement. This work offers a systematic explanation of the psychological structure of everyday meditation from a convergence perspective of science, art, and practice, providing theoretical implications for multidisciplinary research integrating practice, psychology, and sound-based arts.
