A Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis of EEG Signals Based on Meditation and Attention Tasks

Proceedings of the 2025 International Conference on Big Data, Communication Technology and Computer Applications February 14, 2025 Xinyi Wang

Consumer-grade EEG headbands are popular for meditation, but existing indicators cannot distinguish the complex states that occur during meditation. Researchers designed tasks simulating different attention stages during meditation and used Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (MFDFA) to analyze recorded EEG. The more immersive the meditation, the faster people entered a second stage shown in MFDFA, and the lower the multifractal strength there, indicating more consistent neuronal activity and a deep meditation state of peace and acceptance beyond external interference.
